A Twist on Book Talks

First, choose several books that you think students will enjoy and that have multiple characters. For each book, assign one student to represent the author and one student for each of the main characters. Instruct the students to read the book and review important details. Also assist the students in researching the author.

To advertise the book, invite students to dress up and hold props that match their book roles. The student acting as the author greets the class, provides personal facts, and displays the book. Then the student introduces the characters and invites each to describe his or her role in the book. After the presentation, display the books in a designated area for students to read in their free time.
