Critical Question Display

To inspire critical thinking, draw a large question mark on a sheet of chart paper and laminate it. Display the paper near your reading area and set a dry erase marker and a set of sticky notes nearby. During a read-aloud or guided reading session, pose a thought-provoking question and jot it inside the question mark's outline. List the the book's title and author in the question mark's circular dot. At the end of the session, instruct each student to take a sticky note, answer the question, and stick it to the chart paper. At the beginning of the next reading session, reread the question and share a few of the responses to get a discussion started. Later, remove the sticky notes and erase the writing so you can use the display again.
